| Armstrong Falcons vs. Shakopee Sabers | |
| January 4, 2006 | |
| Tonight's Game: | It should be an entertaining game between two good basketball teams. Both teams like to run the court and play a passing game offense. Both teams play mostly man-to-man defense, but will play some zone and some full court defense. |
| Tonight's Opponent: | Shakopee is rated # 1 in state, in some polls. They are led 6'6" senior Eric Carlson who is averaging 25 points and 11 rebounds per game. Sophomore Matt Zager is averaging 14 points per game. |
| Tonight's Coach: | Bruce Kugath has built one of the premier basketball programs in the state. They were champs in class AAA two years ago. |
| Season Update: | All of our teams that played, had success during the winter break: The freshmen A team won three games to win the Catholic Spirit Tournament with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over St. Paul Johnson in the championship game. Ryan Johnsrud stole the ball on the press and passed to Jeff Vathing for the winning shot at the buzzer. Their record is 8-1. The Sophomore team also went 3-0 with an impressive win over Cretin Derham Hall in the championship game of the Catholic Spirit Tournament. Their record 7-2. The junior varsity team beat Monticello by 25 and lost by 3 in the last seconds to Eden Prairie in the Bethel tournament. Their record is 3-5. The varsity beat Roseville and #4 rated Woodbury in the first two games of the Catholic Spirit Tournament, then lost to St. Paul Johnson in the final game 70-67. Alex Rubin and Scott Kaitz were named all-tournament. The varsity is 7-2. |
| Upcoming Games: | We play home at Cooper tomorrow night. Next week we play at Minneapolis Roosevelt on Tuesday and then play #1 AAA Minneapolis Henry at home next Thursday. |
| Season Outlook: | We are pleased with the nice start to our season, and are excited for the many challenges to come. We hope to get Carter Biewen back soon from his sprained ankle. |
