Boys' basketball team roundup • Cole Aldrich turned in a dominating season opener. The senior center scored 28 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in Bloomington Jefferson's 59-53 victory over Lakeville North. • Sophomore Mike Fitzgerald sank five of St. Thomas Academy's eight three-pointers as the Cadets beat defending Class 3A champion DeLaSalle 70-59. Fitzgerald finished with 21 points. Jeremy Randle led the Islanders with 25 points. • Nate Krosschell had 21 points and Edina held on late to beat Benilde-St. Margaret's 72-67. Red Knights junior Jordan Taylor scored 37 points. • Eric Carlson picked up right where he left off last year. The senior forward scored 31 points, leading Shakopee past St. Louis Park 70-54. • Senior guard Alex Rubin scored 17 of his 30 points in the second half when Armstrong rallied from an eight-point deficit to defeat Elk River 57-48. • Max Hintz scored 31 points, and Woodbury broke open a close game in the second half to beat St. Paul Johnson 70-52. Woodbury outscored the Governors 42-26 in the second half. |
