Prep roundup: Champlin Park's Fuller works under the radar

Ashlynn Fuller doesn't get as much attention as some of her teammates, but she is every bit as good in pressure situations.

The senior guard's three-point play with 12 seconds remaining gave Class 4A, No. 2 Champlin Park a 61-60 victory over Osseo in a Northwest Suburban Conference girls' basketball game Tuesday.

Fuller was fouled while making a shot to tie the score at 60. She calmly sank the free throw that gave the unbeaten Rebels (6-0) the lead.

Teammate Natalie Gigler preserved the victory with a steal with two seconds remaining. Gigler led all scorers with 17 points.

In other girls' basketball games:

• St. Paul Central, No. 1 in Class 4A, rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to beat New Prague 83-70. Georgia Jones had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Central. Senior Whitney Trecker scored 36 points for New Prague.

• Senior forward Kachine Alexander had 31 points, including the 1,000th of her career, as Class 3A, No. 1 Benilde-St. Margaret's defeated Chisago Lakes 64-40. She also had eight rebounds and four steals.

Boys' basketball

• Senior forward Trent Carlson tied the school record with 49 points, leading Belle Plaine past LeSueur-Henderson 123-90. He made eight three-pointers and was 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. He equaled the school record set by his brother, Drew, in 1999.

• In the Lake, Cole Aldrich had 23 points, and Jefferson overcame a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Eagan 53-49. ... Aaron Ford's double-double (34 points and 11 rebounds) carried Apple Valley past Kennedy 78-75.

• Carter Biewen scored 24 points, including three consecutive three-pointers in the second half, as Armstrong pulled away from Stillwater for a 70-63 victory. Teammate Alex Rubin had 20 points.

• Junior guard Danny Schoenecker scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half, rallying Edina to a 65-62 victory over Waconia. The Wildcats' game-tying, three-point attempt with eight seconds left came up short.

• Senior forward Brad Sand scored 28 points and grabbed 28 rebounds, leading Park of Cottage Grove past St. Paul Arlington 83-66. Teammate Jake Lindstrom also scored 28 points.
